Job Description:
POWER ELECTRONICS ENGINEER
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Electrical Systems Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Design and develop power conversion systems for hybrid
products to ensure leading-edge product solutions at low costs;
Improve the quality and enhance the performance of power electronics
systems on client’s existing and future products
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze specification functional, performance and environmental
requirements
Design and develop power electronic products related to client's Hybrid
systems to realize high-performance, economical and environmentally clean
equipment
Evaluate existing and new and emerging technologies; propose any new
technology or system that would improve the margins or enhance the
performance of any product and assist in securing the
appropriate Intellectual Property.
Arrange for the appropriate testing of all power electronics systems in
line with the design process, including field test
Design embedded software for DSP’s, CPLD, FPGA and microcontrollers.
DUTIES:
Design and implement power circuits/systems, both internal and sub-
contracted, including every step from concept to product; ensure that all
power electronic system products meet all technical specifications, and
are delivered by due date within budget
Develop and implement control algorithms supporting and operating power
circuits/systems
Develop simulation tools and methods for power systems
Communicate with different partners – direct customer, supplier contact,
internal engineering and drafting to ensure products meet customer’s
requirements, and the design is fully compatible with internal and public
standards
Participate in design reviews and cooperate with other engineering team
members to maximize on different projects
Maintain safe working environment and ensure that safe working habits are
adopted at all times
Maintain currency with new products and integrate into equipment design
Participate to design reviews
Write test plan, reports and all others engineering documents
Write specifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
BS Electrical Engineering with emphasis on power electronics and electric
power engineering and 3 years’ experience in power electronics
Strong hands-on experience with power converter design and control in high
voltage environment
Experience with power semiconductors such as IGBTs, MOSFETs, and diodes,
including knowledge of thermal dissipation matters
Design and building of high power converters and gate drive circuitry
Knowledge in control theory and its applications in power electronics,
programming of DSPs and programmable logic devices (CPLD and FPGA)
Understanding of electric machinery (AC and DC motors and alternators) and
drives, especially the vector control
Analog circuit design and knowledge in Electro Magnetic Compatibility
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with Space vector PWM technology
Design experience with Field Oriented Control Techniques
