Job Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Department: Engineering
Reports to: Electrical Systems Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Design and implement electrical schematics drawings ensuring that all
customers specifications are included in equipment design
Create and integrate multi-cross functional electrical system schematics,
wire run list and parts list that reflect the equipment design, circuit
protection and cable selection
Write clear specifications for functionality and purchase of electrical
components
Contact vendors for parts and arrange for delivery with purchasing
department
Review documents to comply with Design Process
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyze specification functional and environmental requirements
Create and maintain electrical schematics, wire run list and electrical
parts list (Bill of Materials) for each equipment
Provide detailed cabling requirements and selections
Define wires and cables type and segregation to ensure Electro-Magnetic
Compatibility
Provide equipment circuit protection
Design/integrate electrical equipment
Facilitate manufacture of equipment by providing appropriate detail for
manufacturing specialists/sub-contractor personnel
Resolve issues arising from functionality of components following testing
trials or field service trials; detail appropriate Field Modification
Instructions for field service personnel
Maintain currency with new processes/products and integrate into equipment
design to improve reliability of product
Prepare BOM
DUTIES:

Communicate with manufacturing personnel to reflect physical and
electrical requirements for their integration and to improve understanding
of components
Software AutoCAD and developmental software for the electrical schematic,
wire run list and electrical parts list development
Review and release electrical schematics
Select appropriate hardware and correct cabling for locomotive circuit
protection
Participate to field validation and commissioning activities
Adopt safe working habits and adhere to laid down safety procedures
Participate to design reviews
Write test plan, reports and all others engineering documents
Write specifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

BS Electrical Engineering
2-4 years in the heavy industry working (locomotive electrical design and operation and/or comparable experience) Experience of High Voltage systems
Good knowledge of EMI concepts Good communication and interpersonal skills Excellent documentation and database management skills; accuracy; attention to detail Electrical AutoCAD software and electrical integration skills 3-10 years experience in drafting electrical schematics drawings.
