Job Description:
CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Electrical Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Develop, implement, and maintain the control systems of the equipment
Responsible for the control system interfaces to both the operator and the
equipment subsystems
Provide external communication and device interfaces
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze specification functional requirements
Supervise design, assembly and installation of control system
hardware/software according to requirements
Design the HMI between the equipment and control system
Ensure the derivation and programming of control loops
Ensure the interfacing of external devices to the control system
Ensure the reliability of control system
Validate the control system on first unit (field test)
Ensure compliance to standards
Ensure the reliability and effectiveness of remote data communication
Collect data from trending and data logging and analyze/present results
Communicate and provide trouble shooting support to field service and
manufacturing
Communicate with vendors and suppliers to enhance material supply quality
Create appropriate documentation according to the Design Process
Development of embedded models using Matlab/C/C++ /Python
DUTIES:
Design program ladder logic
Design program HMI
Design program models for simulation to verify suitability and carry out
modifications
Create environmental test specifications for reliability validation
Undertake programming using proprietary languages
Create and program communication interfaces for third party and external
equipment
Design, provisioning and programming of other hardware components.
Select, justify, and integrate hardware into control software
Participate to design review meetings
Adhere to safe working practices at all times, especially at external
sites
Maintain positive working relationships with all suppliers and vendors
Development of Technical Specification and Purchase Specification
Participate to design reviews
Write test plan, reports and all others engineering documents
Write specifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
BS Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
PLC and/or other ladder logic experience
Visual C, C++, Visual Basic, Matlab experience preferable
2+ years experience in Rail or other heavy duty equipment industry
Strong organizational and communication skills
Teamwork, integrity, accountability and speed
Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis experience.
